'FALL' HAS ARRIVED or IS IT 'AUTUMN'?

Greeting Friends,

'FALL' has arrived or IS IT 'AUTUMN'?
How would you answer this question?  I was interested in this question so I chose to look up a few opinions on the subject.
We realize that there are 'four seasons' but why do we have two names for this particular time of the year?
Fall is the time when temperatures start to change and certain elements are lacking for the leaves to stay green.  There is a lack of sun that has an influence on the
stability of leaves.  Therefore, the leaves fall from their branches.  This time is a time between summer and winter.

Well, there were many persons that weighed in bravely with their own opinions.  The answer that was chosen for the best answer was this.

The United States call it 'fall' with the thought of this is the time of the year that the leaves 'fall' and therefore, 'fall' seemed to be an appropriate reason to call this time of the year 'fall' instead of 'autumn'.  Sounds simple enough?

Britain also called the time of the year 'fall' centuries ago.  Brits were influenced by the French, and began to call it 'autumn'.  Americans kept the original term 'fall' from 'faellen' in Old English.; meaning 'the fall of the leaf'.  The word autumn comes from the French "I'automne".  The French got the word from the Latin "autumnus".  French and Latin are Romance languages; English is a Germanic language.  The change was on your side of the pond, not ours.

We have to understand that these are opinions and not necessarily factual but it is interesting to me.

When one has the knowledge of the sciences of the universe, I am sure they see an entirely different picture in the 'seasons of the year'.  But for today, I find it interesting to listen to those that give their insight in how they see and perceive the different names in this 'third season the of year, 'fall' or is it 'autumn'?

Until next time

'IT IS THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE'

Greeting Friends,
Today, I have had the opportunity to listen and share with several different persons that have had a very rough week.  I can hear and sense the importance of some act of kindness to others can make a big difference in their day.  It doesn't take much to bring a smile to another face and/or give them a lift that might just change their mood and attitude for today and, perhaps, their tomorrows.

Nobody is exempt from trials and tribulations.  And, at times there are just small interruptions in one's day that can set the day in an off  flow of events.  This is when a call, a note, a kind word and a small amount of your time just brings new hope in another.

With this in mind, I am copying this reading that was written by John Hall. I am sure many of us have heard this before.  I feel is bears repeating to help us recall the ease in helping another along our way each day.

Today we can make a difference for ourselves and for others when we take the time to discern more closely those around us and continue on our journey with purpose.

                              Is anybody happier because you
                                             passed their way?
Does anyone remember that you spoke
                                               to them today?
The day is almost over, and its toiling
                                         time is through;
Is there anyone to utter now a kindly
                                            word of you.
Can you say tonight in parting with the
                                     day that's slipping fast,
That you helped a single sister of the
                                      many that you passed?
Is a single heart rejoicing over what you
                                         did or said;
Does one whose hopes were fading,
                                   now with courage look ahead?
Did you waste the day, or lost it?  Was it
                                       well or sorely spent?
Did you leave a trail of kindness, or a
                                       scar of discontent?
As you close your eyes in slumber, do
you think that God will say,
"You have earned one more tomorrow
by the kindness you did today?"

Until next time

'HOPE IS A GOLDEN ROPE' 'TRUST AND UNDERSTANDING PEOPLE HELP US ALONG'

Greetings Friends,

As the news began this a.m., what did we hear?  Fear is heighten in Washington D.C. with angry shooters, once again.  It seems there are so many non-trusting, insecure, lost people out there in our world.  Their thoughts are focused on hurting others in return.

In light of this, I felt this poem might help cushion our emotions just a bit. Does this poem solve any problems of today so far away?  No, but it only take a seed as small as a mustard seed of faith, hope, trust to touch a person.  And, in turn, hopefully, spread across our land.  One small step at a time.  Our hope can connect to just one person in an attempt to try to help in some way to bridge so many broken hearts for so many different reasons each day.  There can be peace, hope, faith through prayer that can be powerful. Each prayer spoken in each person's own way, filters through ways we cannot understand but it does allow the Spirit to be felt in hearts far from our sight.  This is called Faith, Hope, Trust in something bigger then ourselves, indeed.
I wrote this poem in 1992 but I feel the same today.

'HOPE IS A GOLDEN ROPE'

Hope is a 'Golden Rope'.
Perhaps, a 'heavenly rope' we cannot see.
Love can cushion many fears
and comfort hope to free.

Hope, trust and understanding people
help us to appreciate any gift of love.
It is vital to know when to let go
with gracious patience from above.

Sometimes it takes years and years
to believe there are true friends to be found.
And, not from just the well known class,
but, from simple folk from common ground.

'Hope' is the 'Golden Rope' to heaven.
May we give thanks for even things we cannot see.
Faith, Hope, Trust in 'One Spirit' are heavenly gifts
that abides in 'our hearts' that set all people free.

'09-11-2001 LET US PAUSE TO REMEMBER'

GREETINGS FRIENDS,

'LET US PAUSE TO REMEMBER'
09-11-2001

SEPTEMBER 09, 2001, IS IT JUST A 'DATE'?
IT SEEMED NOT TO BE AFFECTING ANY ONES FATE.
BEFORE THE DISASTER OF 9/11 BROKE OUT,
FOLKS DIDN'T SPECIFICALLY NOTICE, THIS DATE.

FOR SOME, TIME ALLOWED ONLY FOR SELF-SATISFACTION.
THEIR EVIL ORDERS WERE FOLLOWED AND RELEASED.
THE BOLDNESS OF DISASTER CAN TAKE OUR VERY LIVES.
TIME IS THE ESSENCE IN ACTION BEYOND BELIEF.

TOTAL DISBELIEF WAS ALL AROUND OUR PEOPLE.
REGULAR, ORDINARY FOLK WERE TENDING THEIR LIVES.
IN SECONDS, THOSE SAME FOLK BECAME BRAVE AND SCARED.
NO MATTER THE COST....YES, SOME LOSING THEIR LIVES.

AGAIN, THOSE SAME FOLK WERE SOLDIERS SUPPORTING THE ROOT
CAUSE AGAINST CORRUPTION AND THEIR 'VERY LIVES' FOR THIS CALL.
NONETHELESS, THERE ARE STILL EVIL PEOPLE, HIDING COWARDLY, EAGER TO DESTROY.
THERE ARE OTHERS STRIVING FOR FREEDOM AND STANDING TALL.

'OUR SOLDIERS' ARE COMING FROM NEAR AND FAR.
THEY JOIN THIS MISSION IN RESOLVE FOR A COMMON CAUSE.
THEY ARE MIXING THEIR SWEAT WITH OTHER PEOPLES' SWEAT, DIRT
AND, YES, EXPLOSIVES - STILL THEY HAVEN'T PAUSED.

THE AWAKENING CALLS ARE BEING RUNG INTO ACTION.
COURAGE, INTEGRITY AND DEDICATION FLOW ACROSS OUR LAND.
SOMETIMES, IT DOESN'T TAKE MUCH TO TOUCH SOMEONE,
IT IS PRICELESS JUST EXTENDING A HELPING HAND.

'MAY WE TAKE THE TIME TO PAUSE TODAY IN MEMORY OF 09-11-2001 TRAGEDY.
ASKING GOD TO ABOLISH ALL EVIL WITH HARMONY TO GIVE AND RECEIVE.
LET US HEAR WITH OUR HEARTS AND NOT OUR EARS ONLY
WITH A WILLINGNESS AND COMPASSION TO PERCEIVE.

MAY GOD BLESS AND COMFORT THOSE THAT ARE HURTING TODAY
IN ALL WAYS

My Poem: 'Persons Who Made A Postiive Difference'

Greetings Friends,

Here is the poem that I have written in memory of some 'great folks' that made a 'positive difference' that I experienced first hand.  I treasure their friendship still today.  I will always be grateful for their love to me at the time and as to how it changed my life in 'making a positive difference'.

Sometimes, we feel we cannot make a positive difference in any one's life.  I am here to share with you that you can.  It is in the little things in caring for another that truly can make a positive difference.

Perhaps, the question or hesitation within ourselves would be:  are we willing to take the risk to reach out and be ourselves in a humble caring way with expecting nothing in return?  Most people do not care 'what you know until they know that you care'.  The rest will fall into place when our hearts are led from His love and compassion.  This kind of 'love in action' spreads to others when it is given in His gracious loving ways that only He can sprinkle with His Grace.

'Persons Who Made A Positive Difference'

A fragile little girl, failing in health
                                             in July of '92.
So weak and frail, so all alone.
If at this point, she only knew.

Some 'special folk' were sent her way.
They could not leave her there.
They picked her up and took her in their hearts.
They gave her love and care.

She thought so many times in telling these folks,
you are wasting your time, you know.
It is no use.  I will take your time.
You will never see me grow.

This weak and frail little girl
                                    faltered to and fro.
She wanted to take off running,
Nonetheless, she found no place to go.

The days went into weeks and then
                         things began turning around.
She became still and opened her heart.
She knew, true friends she had found.

She did not care how much they knew
until she realized how much they cared.
Then the trust and bond was created
for she knew she could be herself and share.

'Loving gratitude' comes from her heart,
for the opportunity to share with one and all.
For now, she had found her story to share.
She feels 'on purpose for a positive difference', whomsoever calls.

Until next time
